How I started sewing my toys, unrated version of the story !

I remember the day my husband came back home with a $30 sewing machine from a pawn shop from downtown Columbia, Sc where we used to leave. My mother was home and it seams a great idea to practice with her how to use it. I though that day … i will make toys. I had no idea how to use the machine or how I was going to do it but I knew {as always} that I could figure it out. Like Marie Forleo say “everything is figure-out-able” . The first attempt was a chicken that looked like a duck ..

I got “everything” I though I needed to start making my toys. Felt in every single color I found, ribbon, thread , scissors , etc. I remember I spent like $125 and I was like a child in a toy store buying fabric and dreaming about the possibilities. I was clueless about the stitches but I was sure about the design of the toys I wanted. I wanted cute, colorful and well done. I believe being an architect has helped me to figure out the designs and the way to create the pieces and patterns for the toys. It was a long shot {as always with me} but it has been an amazing process.

The second toy that I created back in 2010 was my first owl! it was terrible !!!!! ugly 🙁  I did it on the sewing machine and it was awful , but the next one was not as bad and so on. . I promised I would try to sew my toys on the machine but I loose my nerve and I ended up stitching it by hand… and after that day I didn’t try again to sew with my sewing machine.

Since then I keep creating new fun creatures and now 3 years after I have sewn hundreds of toys and I am still enjoying it as much as I can  due of my busy schedule. Now that I think about it , back then It was very ambitious but I did it. I could stop there in my first attempt but I didn’t.
